Chene Gear: The New Standard in Waders

Ryan Barnes for SPLIT REED

It’s no secret at all that waterfowlers use and abuse their waders. I personally have gone through three pairs in the last three seasons. That is all changing though thanks to the latest and greatest development on the market- Chene Gear and their amazing waders.

By this time, if you haven’t heard of Chene Gear waders, you probably need to crawl out from underneath the rock you’ve been living under. They’ve quickly taken the hunting world by storm. But what is making them so different? First off, their waders are made of nylon, instead of polyester, which allows them to breathe better, and fit your form better. For those of you who have ever tried on a pair of fly-fishing waders, you know exactly what difference this makes.

Secondly, their design with nylon material allows the seams to hold up much stronger than that of polyester or other wading material.

The science that Chene puts into making sure that their seams would hold up under stress was a slow and costly process, but it turned out to be well worth it. While other brands bring seams together by punching thousands of tiny holes in them to sew, glue, and ‘waterproof’ them together, Chene doesn’t do any seam sewing- instead, they weld their seams. Welding of seams is a much better way to bring two parts together because the seams can handle the stress and strain better than other brands of waders, and by not introducing holes into the fabric there are no entry points for water to leak in. Following that they are taped and waterproofed. A process that is no doubt timely, but in the end allows for an all-around better wader.

The third main separating factor that sets Chene apart from the competition is its customer service. If you do happen to have an issue with your waders, their limited lifetime warranty will get you taken care of. If any issues happen due to manufacturing defaults, Chene will either fix the problem, issue a new pair, or refund the money. On top of that, the great folks over at Chene Gear are willing to talk to you, explain the process, and make sure you get exactly what you need. They make it a point to hand-tailor your experience to get a pair of waders that fits exactly what you need for your waterfowling adventures.

They’re duck hunters too, so they know how invaluable a good pair of waders can be. They hope to sell you a pair of waders that will end your future searches for waders.

These waders have been hunted hard and tested by us here at Split Reed and by numerous hunters all throughout the industry and are truly living up to the hype of being “#builtbetter”.
